Meeting - May 20, 2024

No representative from the 3rd Police Precinct was noted in the minutes.

Amy Robins provided a 5th District report:

• Playground update – a meeting is scheduled for June 3.

• The City has applied for Phase 3 of sidewalk construction in our neighborhood. Phase 1 is complete and Phase 2 is in design.

• If neighbors are interested in planting a tree on their block, you can apply for a tree on the City’s website.

• The Texas Beach bridge repair project has been funded.

• The Virginia Home will be moving to Hanover County. (There was discussion surrounding the building and the adjacent empty lot property across the street; the announcement was recent so no updates, just alerting the neighborhood.)

• Reminder to use the 311 app to report issues in the neighborhood.

Joy provided a Maymont and neighborhood update:

• Neighbors expressed concerns about a spotlight during events.

• Jazz Festival is coming this summer and there will be no parking signs for the event.

• A neighborhood yard sale will take place on June 1 at 8am at Sundial Park – all are welcome.

• The Amelia Street School Friends group is looking to reimagine the space adjacent to the school. Contact information can be given to anyone with ideas or interested in helping with this project.

• Future consideration: August 6 is National Night Out. Do we want to do a popsicle party again at the skatepark? Look out for more information.
