Police Department Updates

  • Lieutenant Bill Woo: local crimes including shed larceny in Maymont; home robberies in the Fan; four incidents in the neighborhood over the last month; two planned Texas Beach operations (North Bank Trail) for leash laws, parking lot loitering, open fires, open containers.

5th District and Maymont Updates

  • Nathan Burrell (804-357-8897): James River Park System overview—about 600 acres, high visitation, limited staff, many volunteer donations. Top issues: trash, grass, graffiti. Neighbor concerns: homelessness at doorsteps, signage, locking gates at dusk, lighting, overnight cars, needles on sidewalks.

General Community Notes

    • Minutes and financial report.
    • Executive council had met with Lt. Woo and Parks Superintendent Burrell; both agreed to visit the meeting.
    • Riverview Community Park (Leah Page-Jean): language for construction should emphasize Maymont Civic League support, all-ages access, playground, skate park, green space, walking trail.
    • Richmond Jazz Festival August 13–14 at Maymont (7th year).
    • Former MCL President and Chaplain Mr. Henry Smith (1604 Georgia Ave.) passed away; granddaughter Tina Hunt—group chose a representative to deliver a card and $25 gift card.
    • Sidewalk improvements continuing; viewed as a positive for the neighborhood.
