Police Department Updates
Neighbors requested a stronger police presence on Texas Avenue (drinking and driving, gate closed nightly, off-leash dogs, weekend parking). Consensus favored better policing over parking restrictions; questions about better trailhead signage.
Action items: invite James River Park Association to a future meeting; contact police when seeing alcohol carried into the park or dangerous off-leash dogs; request better signage and enforcement for alcohol and drug violations.
5th District and Maymont Updates
Gloria Bouldin and Mark Brandon summarized the March 7 City Planning Commission meeting (boundary questions, many Maymont changes, Byrd Park listed as a National Historic Place, sidewalks progressing). Ida Jones presented on a possible parking district/permit zone with handouts.
General Community Notes
- Minutes read; Daria Christian absent as financial secretary.
- Ida Jones shared dates: Thursday, April 7 district meeting 6:30 at South Side Plaza; deadline for elderly/disabled tax relief (applications distributed); neighborhood clean-up Saturday, October 15, 9am–noon.
- Leah Page-Jean: Block Party might move from October to late spring; interest in a full meal and potluck. Volunteers: Agnes Lipscombe, Lillie Sanders, Kelly McClellan, Agnes Nicholson.
- Request to invite RRHA to discuss boarded-up houses.
