Police Department Updates

  • A report from the 3rd Precinct (Lt. “Cap”) was read aloud by Gloria Bouldin: the suspect in the prior month’s Greenville Avenue shooting had been apprehended; police considered it an isolated situation with no continuing danger.

5th District and Maymont Updates

  • Dan Gecker, candidate for the 10th District Senate seat, spoke from 7:10–7:20.

  • Councilman Parker Agelasto covered traffic engineering with Mike Sawyer (alternating stop-sign grid to slow traffic, possible within the year); a roughly $900,000 sidewalk plan in three phases starting with Pennsylvania Avenue north side (Hampton to South Meadow); Riverview Community Park and conservation easement / James River Park System issues; and RRHA’s program selling single-family homes (six closings so far), with encouragement to invite RRHA to future meetings.

General Community Notes

    • Treasurer: balance $5,243.20; Keep Virginia Beautiful grant $750 received (spend by Oct. 31; extension possible while Riverview plans were uncertain).
    • Daria Blom collected dues ($5 individual / $10 family).
    • Horticulture facility off Hampton: lengthy discussion; motion passed (Andrea Almond / Joy Whitney second) to draft a conciliatory letter asking the Maymont Foundation to change the building location.
    • Storefront for Community Design (Andrea Almond): possible $1,700 workshops/plan; Parker’s office could contribute. Motion passed (Leslie Rubio / Joy Whitney) to continue talking with Storefront without a contractual commitment yet.
    • Leah Page-Jean: $380 approved for the Block Party (October 17, 2–5pm, Sundial Park on Hampton).
    • Chris Mercer: escort Virginia Home residents to the block party, Byrd House Market Tuesdays, Greenville shooting, possible funds for ice cream socials.
    • John Nicholson (Maymont): neighbors should call Lt. Cap persistently for patrols and safety.
    • Alley clean-up Saturday, October 3, 9am–noon; sign up via Hands On Greater Richmond.
