Police Department Updates

  • No separate police precinct report was recorded for this meeting.

5th District and Maymont Updates

  • Norman Burns, Executive Director of Maymont Park, and an architect presented elevation drawings for a shed and horticultural building near the Nature Center at the intersection of Maymont and Byrd Park, with construction estimated 12–36 months out. Plans included increased event parking off Hampton Street. Discussion ran until 7:55pm.

General Community Notes

    • Minutes from the January 19 meeting were unavailable (left at home).
    • Thelma Robinson resigned as financial secretary; Gloria Bouldin asked for a volunteer. Daria Christian (1600 block of South Meadow Street) accepted the remainder of the two-year term.
    • Treasurer’s report: ending balance $4,433.20.
    • Remembrance Committee: Gayle Turner reported and noted the recent death of longtime Civic League member and leader Eva Brinkley.
    • Upcoming Garden Club event: Ida Cheatham would host a city representative on spring vegetable planting at her home Wednesday, March 18th at 1pm.
    • Skate park / community garden: Ida Jones from Councilman Parker Agelasto’s office said garden plans and similar Parks & Rec items would go to City Council and would likely pass. Leah Page-Jean and Nate Culver passed a sign-up for garden plots; Leah would resend a proposed budget via Ida Jones.
    • Names voted for the new park: Riverview Community Park (15), Riverview Park (2), Treasure Island Park (6); Riverview Community Park won.
    • A motion passed to set aside $300 for recognition of longtime Civic League leaders; Kent Eanes would purchase plaques for distribution at the May meeting.
    • Membership reminder: $5 per person / $10 per household per year.
    • Joy Rogers noted maymontcivicleague.org (built by Leah Page-Jean) and the Maymont Civic League Facebook page were live for reminders.
