Police Department Updates
Gloria Bouldin introduced a Neighborhood Watch program with fliers from Lt. Marshall. The group wanted to research how other neighborhoods run watches. Many neighbors seemed more interested in a localized version without a liaison with Richmond Police. Fliers were distributed and an informal interest survey was taken.
5th District and Maymont Updates
Bruin Richardson introduced himself as Maymont Park’s Interim Executive Director following Norman Burns’ resignation.
General Community Notes
- Libby Germer read minutes from the November meeting; Daria Christian updated the group on fall memberships; Leah Page-Jean read the financial report.
- Gayle Turner, former Remembrance Committee chair, died the prior week. A motion passed to send $25 in remembrance to her church.
- Mark Brandon updated the group on the January 4 City Planning Commission meeting at City Hall on the proposed Maymont Park horticulture garage; many neighbors spoke and asked questions.
- Leah Page-Jean moved to pay the annual $50 fee for the website maymontcivicleague.org; motion passed.
- Leah and Randolph neighbor Erin White proposed an Allen Avenue bike boulevard (20 mph). They described the city’s plan for more bike/walk streets. A motion passed to draft a letter of support from the Maymont Civic League for the Allen Avenue Neighborhood Byway.
- Andrea Almond spoke about a Storefront for Community Design project to improve the entrance to Texas Beach and the North Bank Trail. A survey would be emailed for neighbor comments.
- Other business: Perry Edwards discussed bulk pickup in the alley; Joy Whitney volunteered to help via SeeClickFix. Mark Brandon shared a map of the city’s proposed stop sign “basket weave” changes in Maymont and invited comments. Ida Cheatham asked Tracy Wilson to share that she opposes Maymont placing the horticulture building on Hampton Street. Libby Germer spotted a coyote on Kansas Street.
